(ANSA) - ISTANBUL, 19 SET - The exchange of experiences between Italy and Turkey on anti-money laundering was the focus of a seminar in Ankara organized by the Italian Embassy and the Turkish Ministry of Treasury and Finance, attended by 200 participants, including Turkish government officials, diplomats, and experts from over 20 countries. “We are Turkey’s leading trading partner in the Mediterranean. We are strengthening our trade relations, in part thanks to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Export Plan, and cooperation against illicit financial flows is an excellent tool for strengthening this partnership,” stated the Italian Ambassador to Turkey, Giuseppe Manzo, who opened the seminar alongside the Turkish Deputy Minister of Treasury and Finance, Ilhan Hatipoglu. In recent months, Italian exports have recorded significant growth (+11.3% in June, +6.6 in July on a year-over-year basis), and the strengthening of trade and investment between Italy and Turkey was at the heart of yesterday’s meeting in Rome between Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Antonio Tajani. The seminar in Ankara—part of the embassy’s Ideha26 series—also featured presentations by the director of the Financial Intelligence Unit (UIF) of the Bank of Italy, Enzo Serata, and the President of the Turkish counterpart agency MASAK, Hasan Kaymak, who outlined the specific characteristics of the two models. The Italian Embassy in Zimbabwe, with the assistance of the ICE Agency in Johannesburg, organized an agri-food business forum in Harare, attended by a group of Italian companies, to launch the “Italian Agrifood Technology for Africa” project. The business delegation was led by Renzo Piraccini, President of Agrifood Consulting. The business mission—the first in the country in several years—was carried out in collaboration with the local Ministries of Agriculture and Industry and the Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries. Major trade associations were also present. The mission provided Italian entrepreneurs with the opportunity to present their products and technologies to numerous local business operators. This was followed by specific B2B meetings, attended by over 40 representatives of local companies. During the meetings, the possibility of developing pilot projects in the tomato production and processing sector was also explored. The Italian entrepreneurs then had the opportunity to visit local business and agricultural facilities with the aim of exploring potential areas of cooperation and developing joint initiatives. According to Italy’s ambassador to Harare, Giuseppe Giacalone, “this business forum provided an important opportunity for dialogue among the various stakeholders involved, allowing for the deepening of commercial relations and fostering concrete opportunities for collaboration between Italy and Zimbabwe.” “It was,” he added, “a useful opportunity to present innovative techniques and projects in the agricultural sector, capable of improving cultivation methods and increasing local production, while also capitalizing on the positive trend in the Zimbabwean economy.” Read article...

(ANSA) - TUNISI, 19 SET - The Italian Ambassador to Tunisia, Alessandro Prunas, received Rear Admiral Davide Da Pozzo, commander of the Italian Navy’s Fourth Naval Division, who arrived in the country for the final phase of the multinational exercise “Phoenix Express 2026.” Captain Emiliano Pezzin, Defense Attaché at the Italian Embassy, also attended the meeting. The Italian Embassy in Tunis announced this on its official channels, emphasizing that “Rear Admiral Da Pozzo’s participation in the closing ceremony of the multinational exercise Phoenix Express 2026 —representing the Commander-in-Chief of the Naval Squadron, Vice Admiral Aurelio De Carolis—confirms the importance Italy attaches to coordination and cooperation for security, stability, and freedom of navigation in the Mediterranean.” Phoenix Express 2026, hosted by the Tunisian Navy and now in its 21st edition, concluded after 12 days of activities. The exercise, facilitated by U.S. Naval Forces Africa and directed by the U.S. Sixth Fleet, brought together forces and personnel from 13 countries: Algeria, Belgium, Egypt, France, Georgia, Italy, Libya, Morocco, Tunisia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Spain, and the United States. Activities included, among other things, information sharing, coordination between ships and operations centers, search and rescue, boarding and inspection of suspicious vessels, and response to maritime threats. Italy also participated in the naval phase with the offshore patrol vessel Nave Vega, which operated in the Mediterranean alongside vessels from Tunisia, Algeria, France, Morocco, and Turkey. The at-sea phase began on September 11 from the bases in Bizerte and La Goulette. This participation is part of the broader framework of naval cooperation between Rome and Tunis, which includes bilateral training activities. In November 2025, for example, the Fourth Naval Division hosted the Italy-Tunisia exercise “Oasis 2025” in Augusta, which focused on coordination in naval operations, searc

(ANSA) - BOGOTA, 18 SET - With the start of renovation and waterproofing work on the roof of the Cathedral of Saint Catherine of Alexandria in Cartagena de Indias, the project “Sustainable Tourism and Enhancement of the Walls of Cartagena de Indias,” promoted by the Italian government through the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS). The announcement was made by the Italian Ambassador to Colombia, Giancarlo Maria Curcio, and the municipal administration of Cartagena de Indias. “This necessary preventive measure aims to ensure the sustainability of future efforts to preserve and enhance the historical, cultural, and religious heritage represented by the Cathedral. Once the physical integrity of the building has been secured, we will be able to proceed with the enhancement of the elements that tell our history and identity, as well as the important contributions made by Italian clergy and artists. The project therefore sets out a clear roadmap: first, to protect the structure, and then to proceed with the enhancement of its heritage features,” the Ambassador stated in a press release. This initial phase is part of a much broader and more ambitious initiative promoted by Italy, which integrates three components—“conservation and restoration, sustainable tourism, and training”— — with the goal of safeguarding the city’s heritage and ensuring that it “remains a living element, connected to its history, its identity, and opportunities for development.” The Cathedral project represents the first step in this comprehensive strategy, which includes other planned interventions in the fortified area of the Caribbean city—such as the La Tenaza Bastion, the “Murallita del Diablo” (Little Devil’s Wall), and a future elevated walkway connecting the bastions of San Ignacio and San Francisco Javier—all aimed at creating new pedestrian tourist routes in the historic center. These initiatives are part of the largest international cooperation project ever undertaken by Car

(ANSA) - ROME, 18 SET - A pupil pepper-sprayed a female teacher in the face and then stabbed her at a middle school in Rome's Centocelle district on Friday, sources said. The victim, 66-year-old Italian literature teacher Isabella Marsilio, starting her last year before retiring, was stabbed by one of her 13-year-old students. She was assisted by the emergency services and is not in a life-threatening condition, although she is in shock, the sources said. The attacker, a 13-year-old boy, was trying to live-stream the attack from his phone via Telegram, sources said. Another pupil stopped the attack, according to the sources. "I care about him, and I am deeply sorry that I have only now realized how intense and profound his distress was. I am so sorry if he mistook my teaching for accusations or punishments," she said in an interview with la Repubblica.it when asked what she would like to say to the boy. "Even though I never punished him. He harbored great anger toward me; I feel profound sorrow regarding his distress," she stated, adding that she wants to meet him "to hug him." Regarding the incident, the teacher recounted what happened: "I was afraid I was going to die. He was stabbing me, and he remained silent." "It was 9:20. I saw my student walk in without knocking," Marsilio went on. "I looked at him, but I didn't have time to fully grasp the situation. He was wearing a cycling helmet and glasses equipped with a camera. In his left hand, he held a can of pepper spray, which he sprayed in my face. Then he struck me with a dagger that had a blade at least 20 centimeters long. He never said a word. Nothing. Neither before nor after." (ANSA) - ROME, 18 SET - Next week, the historic Town Hall of Montalcino (Siena) will provide the setting for the highly anticipated and strictly private wedding of singer Damiano David—former frontman of Måneskin—and American actress and singer Dove Cameron. The vows are expected to be exchanged on the afternoon of Thursday, September 24. Following the official ceremony at the town hall, the couple and their guests will head to the heart of the Val d'Orcia, amidst the hills and famous Brunello vineyards. According to Vanity Fair, the chosen venue for the festivities is Castiglion del Bosco, an exclusive five-star resort that hosted Paul McCartney for his 70th birthday in 2012 and where Barack Obama went to play golf in 2017. The event promises to be one of the year's most glamorous, bringing together the Hollywood jet set and the stunning beauty of the Tuscan landscape. The civil ceremony is expected to be officiated by Silvio Franceschelli, the mayor of the Sienese town. The choice of Montalcino confirms the "City of Brunello's" status as a destination for celebrity events; it was here that Paola Turci and Francesca Pascale were married in 2022. Much anticipation surrounds Damiano's former bandmates: if Victoria De Angelis, Thomas Raggi, and Ethan Torchio are among the guests, it will mark a private reunion for Måneskin, a band that has been absent from the public stage since 2024. There have been rumours recently that the band may be getting back together with David's return. (ANSA). Read article...

(ANSA) - ROME, 18 SET - Defense Minister Guido Crosetto—in a letter sent to EU High Representative Kaja Kallas—has called for the strengthening of the European mission Aspides through the deployment of additional naval vessels by other countries to make sure shipping continues to pass the Bab al-Mandab Strait amid increasing encroachment ashore by Iranian-Backed Houthi rebels in Yemen. Italy is reportedly prepared to send a second frigate if requested, but other nations would need to help shoulder the financial burden of the operation. In the last few hours, the frigate Carlo Bergamini—deployed as part of the European Operation Aspides—escorted the Italian merchant vessel Jolly Oro, owned by the shipping company Ignazio Messina & C., during its northbound transit through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, the Italian Navy announced Friday. "The activity falls within the tasks assigned to the naval forces of Operation Aspides," it said. According to the Navy, this represents "a concrete signal, delivered with excellent timing, regarding the importance of maintaining a high level of attention on the safety of commercial shipping in the area." Iranian-backed Houthi rebels have made significant advances around the strait. Defence Minister Crosetto said Thursday that Italy would not wait for the EU to protect its shipping in the strait. He said Italy was willing to go it alone with military operations to ensure its ships can pass the Bab el-Mandeb - but as part of Aspides. It will take the Bergamini two days to escort the Jolly Oro through the strategic waterway, the Navy said. (ANSA). Read article...
